In this tutorial, we will be dealing with some simple steps to get this done.

Assume you had some data to extract the first-word form from a group of text strings. You are to get these first words from each cell.

To achieve this extraction, you can make use of two ways in Excel. They are the Text/Column and the Formular method. But for this section, we will be looking at the formula method.

Given the data below, your task is to extract the First Name out of the Full Name.

The Formular will be  =LEFT(A2,FIND(” “,A2)-1)

This is how the Formular works.

The FIND formula is to find the position of the space character in the text string. The LEFT function is to extract all the characters before that first space character in the text string.

The -1 will remove the space added to it.
